Variables

Tim Owensby

The late Jan DeSalvo, God rest her soul, referred to FastDraft’s variables as “powerful variables.” It was and still is an accurate description.

Variables in FastDraft were central to the drafting experience. They weren’t used for simple text replacement in the form volume component. They could have modifiers attached to reformat them, spell out numbers with appropriate currency designations, gender variables resolved personal pronouns, grouped variables allowed repeating content, and variables could be used to add or remove other content or even abort an assembly if the data entered didn’t match expectations.

RediDraft variables embraced this approach and FastDraft users had little to no difficulty managing variables in RediDraft.

With the 2024 release, RediDraft retains the “powerful variables” Jan described with a modern and intuitive interface.
